About the business
Cafe Florianihof stands as a genuine Viennese classic, nestled in Vienna's 8th district. This establishment has been a fixture in Josefstadt since 1955, possessing an "old soul" while simultaneously embracing a fresh, new era. Under new ownership, Florianihof has thoughtfully blended its rich history with a modern, healthy approach.
Patrons can discover exquisite organic breakfast in Vienna and other healthy dishes, all served in a truly relaxing and charming environment. Catering to a discerning local and classy clientele, Cafe Florianihof is a unique gem where history meets contemporary wellness, offering a refined retreat for those seeking quality, tradition, and a health-conscious menu. It is a prime destination for an upscale cafe in Josefstadt, embodying the best of a historic cafe with a healthy menu.

About the project
The branding project for Cafe Florianihof was a meticulous endeavor aimed at harmonizing the cafe's rich past with its vibrant, health-focused future. The primary objective was to bridge the gap between tradition and the new healthy focus, effectively refreshing an outdated image and appealing to a discerning local and classy audience. The scope of work encompassed a complete branding initiative, including the development of a logo suite, typography, color palette, pattern design, branding strategy, plakat design, menu design, and the website.
A key inspiration for the brand's visual identity came from an 80s photograph of the cafe, which informed a subtle, integrated wall pattern. This was combined with the owner's distinct vision for a new, refreshing color palette. To ensure the brand resonated perfectly, two distinct design approaches were developed: one strictly traditional, and another that was traditional with a subtle modern twist, allowing the client to choose the ideal representation of their renewed vision.

The logo
Since the name Cafe Florianihof had to stay, a sophisticated wordmark logo was the clear choice. Starting with the owner's initial ideas, I dove into selecting fonts that felt both classic and current. The real magic, though, lies in the Art Deco-inspired decorative elements. I looked back to that elegant era for inspiration, using its unique frames and patterns.
You'll see this influence subtly integrated into the frame around the wordmark and throughout the brand's patterns. It's how the logo captures Florianihof's "old soul" from 1955 while also perfectly reflecting its new, healthy, and relaxing vibe – creating a cohesive look for its classy, local patrons.
